Redirects for discussion [ edit ] The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows. There is Nconsensus against the letter and spirit of this proposal.
A contingent in opposition contested the proposal's premise of "huge backlogs".
The lack of a reply, one might expect, lends the contest credibility at the proposal's expense. Others demonstrated how effort would be duplicated and editing resources squandered for naught. Many in support seemed to endorse non-admins closing discussions as delete without making a specific case for RfD in particular while others yet expressed sentiments of need in developing a proposal more fully to have what is needed for such likes to prevail.
Interestingly, Hawkeye7 's comment showed that the opposition was not as much against non-admins closing the discussions as delete as it was against non-admins closing them as delete while in need of deletion.
As such, the lack of contrary decries indicate that his mentioned form of non-admin closure is an acceptable form and is hereby made part of this proposal's close. This is because it is one of those deletion noticeboards that have a huge backlog and can stretch for up to two week or even more.
I am sure that with the help of non-admins, this backlog will always reduce significantly. Before using the Delete button Admins will still have to re-assess the consensus of the discussion.
That's a good point. However, we could restrict this so that users who have more than 10, edits can only close these discussions. However, right now there is a backlog of two weeks at WP: RFD and non-admins can currently close any discussion as anything other than keep.
Also, if that is the case then what if a non-admin closes a discussion as keep just because they created that redirect when there are five delete votes? Then, they got the consensus wrong!
So, if non-admins can't be trusted to close a deletion discussion as "delete", the why should they be trusted to close a deletion discussion as "keep". However, non-admin can close discussions as anything other than "delete" on all noticeboards except WP: TfD where non-admins can close discussions as "delete" as well so what is wrong in letting non-admins close WP: RFD discussions as "delete" to clear the backlog?
There is no problem in letting non-admins close WP:New ideas and proposals are discussed here. Before submitting.
